A spokeswoman for former Secretary of State Colin Powell told The Daily Caller Wednesday that his aides have contacted law enforcement authorities after two years of his personal emails were hacked and leaked.

DC Leaks released about 30,000 Powell emails to select journalists Tuesday afternoon. The messages included his thoughts on Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. (RELATED: Colin Powell: Hillary’s Hubris ‘Screws Up Everything’)

The spokeswoman did not specify which law enforcement authorities have been contacted.

“As a private citizen I would hope journalists would respect that privacy,” Powell told TheDC Tuesday. The retired Army general and former secretary of state also confirmed that the leaked emails are valid.
