The United States Parcel Service (UPS) allegedly allowed untaxed cartons shipped from Indian reservations to reach the hands of children, according to reports. .

UPS supposedly cost New York state millions of dollars by delivering cigarettes to private homes and unlicensed vendors, facilitating 78,500 illegal shipments of cigarettes from 2010 to 2014. The state is claiming $800 million in damages, Bloomberg reports.

UPS also asked a federal judge to block New York from bringing evidence last Monday but were unsuccessful, according to Law 360.

“Young adults 18–25 years of age had the highest prevalence of current cigarette smoking,” according to a study by National Center For Biotechnology Information. New York state lawyers claim that cheaper cigarettes further increase the likelihood that youth will smoke.

UPS denies any wrongdoing and claim they were in full compliance with the law, Bloomberg reports. The lawyer for UPS also claims the damages in this case are “ridiculously high,” according to Bloomberg.

The case is ongoing and currently under review by the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York.
