Folk singer Neil Young released a song and music video protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline.
“There’s a battle raging on the sacred land/ Our brothers and sisters have to take a stand,” Young croons in the video while driving around in what appears to be a gas-powered vehicle. “Against us now for what we all been doing/ On the sacred land there’s a battle brewing.”
The 1960s castoff even took a few pokes at the news media in the video, singing, “I wish somebody would share the news,” implying, of course, that journalists have short-shifted news coverage of the protests.

The meandering track is titled “Indian Givers,” and the music video shows protesters being confronted by armed police, and is spliced with images of the 70-year-old singer crowing about the unfairness of it all.
Young’s song is an ode to the protesters and members of the Standing Rock Sioux arguing the pipeline’s construction would trample on tribal lands and destroy artifacts.
The DC court of appeals moved on Sept. 17 to temporarily halt construction on the 1,200-mile-long project while the court considers whether to order a longer delay.
The pipeline is a joint venture between energy companies Marathon Petroleum Corp. and Enbridge Energy Partners LP, and Energy Transfer Partners.
Young joins a growing wave of celebrity activists and Hollywood environmentalists who have taken up the cause, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Susan Sarandon, Pharrell Williams, Rosario Dawson, and the cast of the Justice League.
