Chairman of the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign John Podesta and Clinton Advisor Neera Tanden had an email conversation in March questioning why President Barack Obama would not support Clinton, according to a Wikileaks release Wednesday.
“Can Obama even hint of support of Hillary before Tuesday? Really, just a directional nod would be helpful. Like if he just is asked a question or > tweets an innuendo — how did he vote in the primary?” Tanden asked.
“Maybe they don’t want to do this, but the stakes are pretty damn high in this election for him,” Tanden concluded.
“Why don’t you push Valerie a little bit,” Podesta responded the next day, referencing Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett.
Although the Clinton campaign began pushing Obama in March, the president waited until June, when it became clear that Sen. Bernie Sanders didn’t have a chance of winning the Democratic nomination.
“Look, I know how hard this job can be. That’s why I know Hillary will be so good at it. In fact, I don’t think there’s ever been someone so qualified to hold this office,” Obama said during his June endorsement of Clinton.
