A mom and her two young daughters were killed during Halloween festivities in rural Mississippi after a truck rammed into a trailer taking people on a hayride.
The three relatives killed were 33-year-old Kristina Shaver, 8-year-old Baylie Shaver, and 2-year-old Brooke Shaver, according to NBC news affiliate WLBT.
At least three helicopters and multiple ambulances were needed to transport the many severely injured people to a local hospital.
The trailer was traveling on a highway in the town of Chunky at around 8 p.m., reports ABC news affiliate WTOK-TV.
“There were two vehicles involved. One of the vehicles was pulling a trailer, which was loaded with several occupants. Adults and children were on the trailer. Both vehicles were traveling westbound on Highway 80 when an F-150 collided into the rear of the trailer,” Sergeant Andy West told WTOK-TV.
The truck appears to have rear-ended the trailer that was carrying multiple people dressed for Halloween.
“It’s a small community. This is a bad thing to happen anywhere, but when it’s local, it really hits home. These are good people, and our hearts go out to them,” West told WTOK-TV.
