A slim majority of Latino voters agree that not enough is done to enforce immigration laws, according to a Pulse Opinion Research survey published Tuesday.
Fifty-one percent of voters agree with Republican nominee Donald Trump when he says that immigration laws aren’t enforced enough. Additionally, 49 percent of latino voters indicated they “support a policy causing illegal immigrants to return home by enforcing the law.” Thirty-six percent of Latino voters didn’t support the idea.
Likely voters nationwide agree, regardless of ethnic background. Fifty-four percent of all voters agree that the government is doing “too little” to enforce immigration laws. Even more Americans, 56 percent, support the idea of returning illegal immigrants to their home countries.
The 2016 early voting season witnessed a large turnout of Latino voters, a sign that Democratic pundits are calling a win for Democrats across the ballot, according to ABC News.
“Those are probably people who are in Clinton’s camp,” political science professor at the University of Florida Michael McDonald told ABC News about the large Latino voter turnout.
But the Pulse poll reveals that Republicans could produce a much closer race.
Pulse Opinion Research included 1,000 likely voters nationwide, and ran from Nov. 1 through Nov. 3. The poll carried a margin of error of 3 percentage points in either direction.
