North Carolina’s Board of Elections extended voting in eight precincts, a move that is likely to benefit Democrats.

The Durham County Board of Elections requested an extension of 90 minutes after countywide “technical issues,” at several precincts, according to CNN. Election officials switched to paper roll books after the electronic voter check-in system malfunctioned.

Nonprofit Democracy North Carolina sued in order to extend the hours in Durham County, a well-known Democratic area, home to approximately 270,000 people and is close to 38 percent black.

The state board of elections voted 2-3 to keep two Durham County precincts open for an extra hour, and six other precincts will remain open for less than an hour. The problem was apparently caused by a “computer glitch” that forced poll workers to switch to paper in order to check in registered voters.

North Carolina has turned into a battleground state, and a victory is critical for Republican nominee Donald Trump.
