Republican gubernatorial candidate Eric Greitens defeated former Democratic Attorney General of Missouri Chris Koster in the Missouri governor’s race Tuesday.

The race was tight, but Greitens pulled ahead shortly after midnight Wednesday morning. The Missouri gubernatorial race is one of two that pundits projected the GOP would take, the other was the Vermont governorship.

Neither open secrets nor Ballotpedia have financial information in the race, but several outside groups either donated or participated in electoral activities such as door-knocking and phone banking for both candidates.

Greitens went into election day with a slight lead in the polls, earning a .5 percent lead in the Real Clear polling average. The last poll published in the race came from Remington Research, and revealed a 1 percent lead for Greitens.

The UVa Center for Politics gave the race a “leans Republican” rating. the Center revealed that it only expects Republicans to take two governorships from Democrats, but Republicans are set to lose seats in North Carolina and Indiana.

The two squared off alongside Libertarian candidate Cisse Spragins in a single debate in the race on August 5, just three days after the major party candidates won their respective primaries.

WATCH:

Koster won the Democratic primary with 78.75 percent of the vote, or 256,272 individual votes. Greitens only earned 34.56 percent of the vote during his primary, which was 236,481 votes.
