Trump was upset with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie the night of the election because he kept trying to get close to the President-elect during photo ops, according to a Sunday report from Yahoo News.
“Trump got annoyed,” an unnamed source told Yahoo News about the matter. Christie apparently drew Trump’s ire by consistently working his way into the center of photos with Trump, edging out other staffers on the stage, according to the source.
Yahoo did concede that there were probably other factors that contributed to Trump’s decision to demote Christie as leader of the transition team, citing a growing dissatisfaction with the work the governor was doing before the election.
Additionally, Trump aides told Yahoo that the number of lobbyists on the Christie transition team “appalled the shit out of him,” according to a Trump campaign source.
Trump announced Vice President-elect Mike Pence would be taking over control of the transition team the Friday after the election. Trump also gave son-in-law Jared Kushner a top post as advisor to the transition team, according to The Washington Post.
Yahoo News addressed speculation that Kushner was behind the ouster due to a “feud” with the New Jersey Governor because of his prosecution of Kushner’s father.
“The idea that, at this kind of time, that Jared would do something to try to settle personal scores above what was in Mr. Trump’s best interest is somewhat ridiculous,” a high-level source told Yahoo news. “Trump just wouldn’t put up with that, and Jared knows that 100 percent.”
