Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich thinks that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani would make a better Secretary of State than former Gov. Mitt Romney, according to a Tuesday report from Politico.

“I think there are huge advantages to Rudy Giuliani,” Gingrich told Politico. “Frankly, I think that if you want someone who is going to go out and be a very tough negotiator for America and represent American interest in the way that Trump campaigned, I think that probably Rudy is a better pick and has the right temperament.”

Gingrich further asserted that it wasn’t clear if Romney “was willing to be secretary of state,” adding that he wasn’t sure if Romney “would work to make Trump Romney’s version of the presidency.”

Gingrich made sure to praise Giuliani in his comments.  “We’re going to need somebody who is a fighter,” because “the world is not going to change just because we show up and say ‘please.’ If that was going to work, Secretary Kerry would be successful.”

“My driving goal is to figure out, in January 2025, how did we serve the country so well,” Gingrich concluded. “To do that, I think you have to have someone who can maintain perspective.”

President-elect Trump met with Romney Sunday, but Giuliani has had several meetings with Trump since the election. There is still no word on when the Trump campaign plans to make an announcement as of press time.
