New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is interested in the position of chair of the Republican National Committee, according to a Thursday report by Politico.

Spokespersons for either President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team, or Christie’s office commented on the matter, but a senior Christie staffer told Politico on condition of anonymity that he is interested in pursuing the position.

Christie ran the Trump transition team before he was replaced with Vice President-elect Mike Pence by Trump last month. Pence then purged most of the staff on the transition team due to their background in lobbying. Pence also replaced members of the team who had ties to Christie, fueling rumors that Trump advisor Jared Kushner was behind the change, but Kushner and Trump are dismissing the claims.
