A man was arrested Sunday afternoon after entering a Washington, D.C., restaurant with a rifle. There were no injuries and an “assault rifle” was recovered, according to a police spokeswoman.

The restaurant, Comet Ping Pong, is at the heart of an internet conspiracy theory which originates from WikiLeaks that says John Podesta is part of a pedophile ring. Metropolitan Police said in a statement: “28 year old Edgar Maddison Welch of Salisbury, North Carolina was arrested and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun). During a post arrest interview this evening, the suspect revealed that he came to the establishment to self-investigate “Pizza Gate” (a fictitious online conspiracy theory).”

Two firearms were located inside the restaurant, and an additional gun was inside of Welch’s car, according to police. Metropolitian Police said the suspect fired his weapon inside the restaurant.
