A majority of American voters believe that the alleged Russian cyber-attacks had no real effect on the 2016 election results, according to a Fox News poll published Thursday.
A majority, at 59 percent of respondents, reported they didn’t think Russia was able to help Trump win the election, but 32 percent of respondents reported that Russia did help Trump win the election — a fairly high percentage over a month out from the election.
Officials with the Central Intelligence Agency reportedly believe that Russia meddled in the election by hacking into the Clinton campaign’s private emails, a claim Republican President-elect Donald Trump said was “ridiculous.”
Overall, 67 percent of voters have faith in the CIA’s intelligence reports, with 18 percent of respondents reporting they have “a great deal” of faith in the agency’s ability to understand events around the world.
Fifty percent of voters reported they felt Trump was much too accommodating with Russia, compared to 15 percent who report they felt he was being too confrontational.
The public had much different feelings about Trump’s handling of China, at least, thus far. Forty-three percent of voters reported they felt Trump was being too confrontational in his handling of China, and 17 percent reported they felt he was too accommodating.
Democrats were much more likely to have faith in the CIA reports than Republicans, with 75 percent of Democrats and 63 percent of Republicans reported a positive view of the CIA.
The poll included 1,034 registered voters, and ran from Dec. 11 through Dec. 13. The poll carried a margin of error of 3 percentage points in either direction.
