A recent study reveals erotic books like “Fifty Shades Of Grey” could help women combat low sexual desire.

Approximately 24 percent to 36 percent of women between the ages of 30 and 59 suffer from low sexual desire at some point in their life, reports PsyPost.

One therapy solution, three sessions of “mindfulness-based group psycho-educational intervention,” can prove too costly as it is usually not covered by insurance companies.

Bibliotherapy is slowly emerging as an effective and cheaper way to solve sexual desire issues. The study sought to measure whether self-help books or erotic fiction helped with the issue by using “A Tired Woman’s Guide to Passionate Sex,” a self-help book, and “Passion: Erotic Romance for Women.”

Twenty women from ages 30-55 in reportedly happy marriages read the self-help book, while 27 women from the same age range read the erotic fiction. Both groups received the same instructions and were given reminders three weeks into the experiment to complete the end survey.

Both groups reported finding an increase in sexual desire after reading the books.

“Participants reading both types of books made statistically significant gains on the two measures of desire, arousal, lubrication, satisfaction, orgasm, pain reduction, and overall sexual functioning,” the study said.
