It’s not often that an American journalist defends himself by insisting that he’s a big nobody.
But it’s a new day and David Burge, who writes the right-leaning Iowahawkblog, did just that. He also called his attacker — a Princeton professor, neuroscientist and poll expert — a “twat.”
The whole thing started on Sunday when Burge was chatting about a hot rod car.
Twitter attacker Sam Wang, whose handle is pretentiously @SamWangPhD, soon pounced.
And then it was on.
WANG: Glad to see brave conservatives face up to a Constitutional crisis with…Sunday car talk.
BURGE: I’ll tweet about what I please, you twat.
WANG: It’s okay. It is an understandable impulse when your side is doing something shameful.
WANG: You are following the lead of Sen. Grassley, silent, like you. Nebraska senator, Sasse, is braver.
BURGE: I’m not a senator, I’m a fucking nobody on the internet you deranged lunatic.
Burge may say he’s a “nobody,” but if Twitter matters, he has 150K followers compared to Wang’s measly 30.2K. Wang, comparatively, is something of a big deal. He worked at Bell Laboratories and graduated from college when he was 19 — he was the youngest in his class, according to online bios. He has a PhD in neuroscience from Stanford. He has taught molecular biology at Princeton since 2006, where he also runs a polling site.
He’s vehemently opposed to President Donald Trump and officially predicted that Hillary Clinton would win the election. He agreed to eat a cricket if Trump received more than 240 electoral votes and eventually did so on CNN. Winner of the Twitter fight: Burge. He comes in with the funnier remarks. He swears. And he’s right. He’s not a senator. He also doesn’t brag about himself like Wang.
