There are now two Democrats running to unseat Florida Republican Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, according to a Sunday report from Politico.

Bottling company CEO Scott Fuhrman and Miami Beach Commissioner Kristen Rosen Gonzales have both expressed interest in opposing the long-standing Republican who hails from Cuba.

“Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen has been telling people what they want to hear instead of what they need to know,” Fuhrman told Politico. “I want to be known as the truth teller.”

Fuhrman opposed Ros-Lehtinen during the 2016 election, but entered the race with only four months to go, a fact that Fuhrman hopes to rectify by announcing over 18 months in advance his bid in the 2018 electoral season.

Fuhrman lost by 9 percentage points, earning just over 45 percent in the race. Fuhrman also raised close to half the money Ros-Lehtinen did during the course of the race, and hopes that number will go up as Democrats begin a massive fundraising effort centered solely around opposition to President Donald Trump.

Regardless of who wins the primary, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced Ros-Lehtinen is one of three GOP representatives the group will target in Florida. The increased national spotlight is sure to bring additional fundraising power.

Democrats are currently testing their fundraising power with Georgia’s special election to replace Rep. Tom Price. Fundraising heavy hitters like House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker campaigned for Jon Ossoff, and helped propel him to a nearly $4.4 million haul weeks before the election.
