David Goodfriend told Fox News host Shannon Bream Tuesday morning that Tucker Carlson is working as a “high paid smokescreen salesman for the Trump administration.”

Goodfriend, who served as deputy staff secretary in the Clinton administration, criticized Carlson for covering the news that President Obama’s former national security advisor Susan Rice ordered the unmasking of private U.S. citizens.

“We’re going to be fair and balanced here,” Goodfriend stated. “Yesterday, my friend Tucker Carlson — and I want you to know this, I like Tucker. I’ve been on his show — but I’m sorry he’s turning into a high-paid smokescreen salesman for the Trump administration.”

He argued The Daily Caller founder is “trying to obfuscate and distract you from the real news.”

“First of all, Tucker Carlson has been very tough on the Trump administration on many occasions,” Bream clarified, to which Goodfriend responded, “not last night he wasn’t.”
