Former GOP Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney plans to attend a fundraiser with Democratic Sen. Jon Tester of Montana, according to a Thursday report from McClatchy.

The fundraiser will be held at Hawthorne, a Washington, D.C., bar located steps from the White House. Yellowstone Forever Young Patrons is hosting the event to benefit Yellowstone National Park.

“At a time when proposed budget cuts are threatening our national parks, the generosity and support from private citizens goes a long way,” Tester told McClatchy Thursday. “I’m honored to partner with Gov. Romney to ensure our public lands get the support they deserve.”

It’s not uncommon for Republicans and Democrats to attend fundraisers for nonpartisan causes, like the annual Catholic charity fundraiser that President Donald Trump attended last October.

This joint fundraising venture is unusual due to the fact that Tester is a top target for Republicans in the 2018 midterm elections. Tester’s seat leans Democratic according to the University of Virginia’s Crystal Ball.

Despite the rating, Republicans classify Tester as an easy target. He won by just over 3 percent of the vote in 2012 and under one percent in 2006.

Those numbers could change due to the fact that Trump led the state by 20 percentage points. Romney won the state by 13.5 percentage points in the 2012 election.
