Filmmaker and liberal provocateur Michael Moore believes his new solo Broadway show will help the #Resistance make Donald Trump a one-term president.
If Moore and his fellow “army of satirists” are successful, he says, Trump won’t even make it to 2020.
“It’s a 12 week limited run,” Moore told Variety. “I would like Trump to have the same thing. I really am in a take-no-prisoners mode right now.”
Moore is billing the show, “Michael Moore on Broadway: The Terms of My Surrender,” as different from the one-man performance on which the film “Michael Moore in Trumpland” is based. He plans to riff on news of the day and occasionally incorporate guest appearances, Variety reports. (RELATED: Michael Moore On Syria Strike: ‘Trump Is Playing Everyone Again’)
“Terms of My Surrender,” which starts preview performances July 28 prior to an Aug. 10 opening, aims to make good on Moore’s previous assertion that comedians will hound Trump out of office. He predicted in February the president would be unable to withstand public ridicule from an “Army of Comedy.”
“As I’ve said many times, it will be an Army of Comedy that brings him down. His skin is so thin, he can’t handle the humor or the ridicule,” Moore tweeted.
Moore reiterated those comments Monday, telling Variety that satire will sink the administration.
“We need an army of satirists,” he said. “His [Trump’s] Achilles heel is his very, very thin skin.”
The Michigan native has been one of Trump’s most relentless critics, but in the wake of the 2016 election, he pushed back against the charge that Trump won because of racial animus among working class voters. “You have to accept that millions of people who voted for Barack Obama, some of them once, some of them twice, changed their minds this time. They’re not racist,” he said on a post-election segment of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
“They twice voted for a man whose middle name is Hussein. That’s the America you live in.”
Moore predicted before the election that Trump would win the presidency by flipping Rust Belt states that had gone for former President Barack Obama, which is exactly what happened.
Since then, he has claimed that Trump will declare a war that “will get us all killed,” ban all Muslims from the U.S., and, most recently, be impeached during his second term in office.
