FBI Director James Comey’s firing will not end the investigation into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia, warned GOP Arizona Sen. John McCain Tuesday.

McCain assured a group of foreign diplomats that the issue will continue, and that Comey’s firing will not stop the FBI investigation, should that have been President Donald Trump’s intention, according to a report by The Washington Post.

“This scandal is going to go on. I’ve seen it before,” said McCain during a meeting with the Munich Security Conference core group. “This is a centipede. I guarantee you there will be more shoes to drop, I can just guarantee it. There’s just too much information that we don’t have that will be coming out.”

McCain’s remarks followed up his official statement, which expressed disappointment in Trump’s decision.

The senator alluded to the so-called “Saturday Night Massacre,” former President Richard Nixon’s firing of Watergate special prosecutor Archibald Cox in 1973, while speaking to the diplomats

Though McCain said Trump’s decision was “unfortunate,” he did note the president has the constitutional authority to fire the FBI director.

“But I can’t help but think that this is not a good thing for America,” McCain added.

The senator reiterated his previous call for a special committee to investigate the allegations against the Trump campaign in the wake of Comey’s removal.

“I have long called for a special congressional committee to investigate Russia’s interference in the 2016 election,” McCain’s statement said. “The president’s decision to remove the FBI Director only confirms the need and the urgency of such a committee.”

Several other Republicans, including Senate Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Richard Burr, joined McCain in their disappointment with Trump’s decision.
