A jury, made up of three black people and nine white people, cleared Shelby of first degree manslaughter charges.
Shelby fatally shot Terence Crutcher, a black man, after she came across his car parked along the side of the highway, saying she feared for her safety. Body camera footage showed Crutcher, who had PCP in his system at the time of his death, walking away with his hands in the air.
Shelby is reportedly “elated” with the jury’s decision, her lawyer said.
“She’s ready to get back to her life,” Defense Attorney Shannon McMurray said.
