College student Alex Winn leaped from a dock into a bay to catch a dogfish shark with his bare hands in a video that went viral Wednesday.

Winn, 19, dove headfirst into Washington state’s Liberty Bay to catch the shark that he spotted while sitting on a dock. Winn dove directly at the shark and surfaced holding the shark above his head.

“Crikey, mate, I just caught this little bugger,” Winn said as he attempted to do his best impersonation of the famous crocodile hunter Steve Irwin.

Winn claimed that the reason he dove in the water to catch the shark was because he had never seen a dogfish in person before. After catching the shark, Winn said he released it unharmed.

“Overall, I just wanted to let people know I wasn’t trying to hurt the fish at all,” Winn told The Seattle Times. “He was back in the water really, really soon.”
