A South Carolina police officer pleaded with dispatchers to tell his family he loved them after being shot at eight times by a suspect, camera footage released Thursday shows.
South Carolina prosecutors released the eyeglass camera footage Thursday from the 2016 shooting as part of trial evidence in Malcolm Antwan Orr’s attempted murder of Estill Police Officer Quincy Smith, reports Fox 13.

The shooting occurred New Year’s Day 2016, when Smith responded to a call about a man swiping groceries from people in front of a liquor store. Smith tried to stop Orr, who matched the description of the robbery suspect. Orr did not stop when Smith asked him, and instead kept walking away while talking on his cellphone.
Smith pulled out a taser to stop Orr, and Orr responded by pulling out a handgun and shooting Smith multiple times. Two bullets broke his arms and one hit Smith’s neck. Smith ran for cover and called dispatchers, pleading with them to tell his family that he loved them.
“I am hit. I am hit in my neck someplace. Dispatch, please tell my family I love them,” Smith, who survived the shooting, said in the video.
The jury found Orr guilty of attempted murder after deliberating for 45 minutes.
“I had nightmares sometimes about the incident. I’m still trying to heal up injuries to my arm,” Smith said about the shooting. “Both our families are the ones really suffering the most. Violence and guns aren’t the answer. That’s why I became a police officer.”
