A Switzerland supermarket chain announced Monday that it has decided to offer bugs as its latest delicacy.

Coop, the second largest supermarket chain in Switzerland, will begin serving insect delicacies, including an insect burger and insect balls made out of mealworm, France24 reported. The products will be available in Geneva, Bern, and Zurich Aug. 21.

Switzerland is the first European country to authorize insect-based food products for human consumers. Swiss food safety law now allows crickets, mealworms and beetles to be sold for human consumption.

The country adapted its food laws May 1. No information currently exists regarding the origin of the imported insects, but due to strict laws, local production is unavailable, BFM Business reported.

If Swiss authorities further change the laws, local harvesting of insects will begin next fall.
