Special adviser to President Donald Trump, Jared Kushner, attended a private fundraiser for House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows in North Carolina Thursday evening, Politico reports.

Meadows is one of the few consistent allies of the president in Washington. He helped the president and House Speaker Paul Ryan pass a bill to repeal and replace Obamacare–the American Health Care Act–in the House in early May. Meadows has also acted as president’s liaison between conservatives in the administration and the House, and supported Trump in the 2016 presidential election.

Kushner’s appearance at Thursday’s fundraiser shows just how important the administration views its relationship with Meadows.

Kushner and Meadows are not strangers. The pair has reportedly discussed the nation’s relationship with Israel and paid family leave. Kushner is trying to push an Israel-Palestine peace agreement and is working with his wife, Ivanka Trump, to pass a bill that would include six weeks of paid family leave as part of unemployment benefits.
