A University of Alabama football coach’s son died late Sunday night after being shot in Maryland.

Over the weekend, Mike Locksley’s son Meiko, was killed from a fatal gunshot in Columbia, Maryland.
Mike Locksley, the co-offensive coordinator and wide receiver coach for Alabama’s football program, found out his son Meiko’s death resulted from a late night altercation outside of a neighborhood in the Columbia area.

The Howard County Police released a statement and said, “Multiple callers reported hearing a single gunshot in the neighborhood, and a resident located Locksley outside and called 911.”

The police do not currently have a suspect or a possible motive for the shooting. Nick Saban spoke to reporters on Monday and said, “Mike Locksley, our wide receivers coach and assistant offensive coordinator, had a family tragedy—his son was killed. I just want everybody to understand that our thoughts and prayers go out to Mike, Ms. Kia and the entire Locksley family over this tragedy. We’ll do everything that we can to support Mike and his family in this time of tragedy.”

Locksley previously served as an assistant coach for the University of Maryland.
