Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer is not a fan of football coaches who complain about the players on their rosters.
Meyer took aim at his former assistant, current Texas Longhorns coach Tom Herman, who tried to sell plenty of excuses following an opening weekend loss to Maryland.
The coach particularly took issue with Tom Herman at Texas and Will Muschamp, formerly at Florida and now at South Carolina.
Meyer pointed to a statement made Saturday by Herman (his former offensive coordinator at Ohio State) not being able to “sprinkle fairy dust” on the Longhorns team he inherited from Charlie Strong (Meyer’s former defensive coordinator at Florida) following a loss to Maryland.

“C’mon man. I don’t know where that came from,” Meyer told CBS Sports. “It’s like a new generation of excuse. [Herman] said, ‘I can’t rub pixie dust on this thing.’ He got a dose of reality. Maryland just scored 51 points on you.”
Meyer hit the nail on the head with these comments. So many coaches try to find excuses when the program starts to slip, and the players they inherited always seem to be target number one.

There is nothing wrong with the talent on the Texas roster. There is no question they are a more talented team than Maryland. You can look directly at coaching to find the person most likely responsible for a loss when the more talented team doesn’t win. Perhaps Herman and the coaches like him should take a long look in a mirror before trashing their players, most of whom aren’t even old enough to buy a beer.
You can hate Ohio State, and you can hate Urban Meyer as a coach, but there’s no doubt he’s right with these comments about whiny coaches.
