On the 16th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump led a moment of silence on the White House lawn.

The pair exited the White House at precisely 8:45 AM and strode hand in hand onto the lawn to prepare for the moment of silence. The solemn looks on the Trumps’ faces reflected the nature of the day.

The Trumps and the crowd bowed their heads in silence at 8:46 AM, the exact time that the first hijacked plane crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City, NY.

There will be additional moments of silence throughout the day, including a moment for when a second hijacked plane hit the South Tower of the World Trade Center, and when a plane crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, VA.

In between the moments of silence, family members of 9/11 victims read the names of all of the victims at Ground Zero in NYC.
