A massive Russian military exercise simulating war on NATO’s eastern flank is coming to an end Wednesday.
The exercise was well documented by the Russian Ministry of Defense and may have included up to 100,000 troops. Russia officially put the number of participating troops at approximately 12,000 to avoid an international agreement that would require western observers at any exercise with more than 13,000 troops.

The exercise spawned multiple photos and videos of Russian military hardware in action across the six-day period. The Russian unit participating in the exercise is reportedly named after a famed Soviet military unit famous for battling Hitler’s armies in World War II and eventually occupying Berlin.
