Golfer Paige Spiranac had a blunt message for the critics of the outfits she wears on the course.
The Instagram superstar posted a photo of herself late Friday and included a caption that took direct aim at those who disagree with what she chooses to wear.
She wrote the following:
I’ve been pretty outspoken about dress code on the golf course, but I feel like some of you think I want change just so I can show off my cleavage for attention haha However there are actual reasons why! Growing up I was forced to wear my mom’s golf clothes because there weren’t any other options for me. As a 13 year old I never felt comfortable in what I was wearing, which made me feel very self-conscious and unconfident. Whenever I would try to wear a skirt, or what I thought was a cute top, I’d often get yelled at and told to change by people at the course. As a young girl these experiences almost made me want to quit, not just because I couldn’t wear cute clothes, but because of how I was treated and humiliated by all these guys when I was just 13. Luckily I have great parents who helped me through these embarrassing and rude experiences, but not everyone is that fortunate. And not everyone can afford a completely separate golf wardrobe. I never want anyone else to feel the way I did or be treated the way I was treated. I believe to grow the game, you need to allow people to express themselves on the course – not only young people who are just figuring out who they are, but anyone, at any age – because no one wants or deserves to be shamed for what they like to wear or how they look in their clothes.
She has a very well documented history of wearing just about whatever she wants on the course, and it’s one of the reasons she has gotten such a massive following.
