Local Vermont newspaper The Bennington Banner is getting national attention after it published a cartoon in the wake of the Las Vegas attacks.
The cartoon depicts a pile of crudely illustrated bodies with the caption, “What happens in Vegas…”
The Bennington Banner published the cartoon on Tues. 2 days after the worst mass shooting in US history -‘Whatever happens in Vegas.’ pic.twitter.com/F6DkCINPI5

Somehow the cartoon slipped by the editor, but it certainly wasn’t lost on the rest of the country.
@_ROB_79 I question the mental health of the cartoonist and all who allowed that to be published.

@banner_news… Another lib-biased rag spewing out vile journalism, then thinking a “We’re sorry” retraction is okay. #ApologyNotAccepted pic.twitter.com/ic4AzhjVBY

Wow, that’s impressive with how low you guys went. This is deplorable and a good reason not to pick up your paper anymore. @banner_news pic.twitter.com/qpQi2dgDLY

President of New England Newspapers, Inc. Fredric D. Rutberg issued an apology and said the matter was being looked into.
The Bennington Banner frequently publishes articles like “The Republican Rot Runs Deeper Than Roy Moore,” “Enough Patchwork Healthcare,” and “Moral Guidance, If Not From The President.”
Since the newspaper claims to be a local news source rather than one of opinion, perhaps more than the cartoon should be looked into.
