Politico buried a major revelation in the Russian investigation 28 paragraphs deep in its daily newsletter Wednesday.

That revelation: Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the Democratic Party funded the infamous Fusion GPS dossier.

Many media outlets have downplayed the significance of reports confirming the GPS dossier was funded as Democratic opposition research. Politico’s newsletter seems to be doing the same.

Apparently, in Politico’s “Playbook” newsletter, it was more important that former Massachusetts GOP Sen. Scott Brown and current ambassador to New Zealand is being investigated for remarks he made while addressing a Peace Corps event.

Since that broke the morning the newsletter was sent out, maybe that should get the top billing. The Clinton-Dossier revelation should come next, right? Wrong.

Jump down to paragraph four, and the next news item Politico mentions is the criticism Trump has gotten from GOP Sens. Jeff Flake of Arizona and Bob Corker of Tennessee. The newsletter specifically highlights Flake’s floor speech from yesterday, announcing his intention not to seek re-election.

Somewhat big news, but not unexpected. Flake and Corker attacking Trump is nothing new. Flake is way down in the polls, and political analysts weren’t all that surprised he dropped out to avoid a humiliating defeat next year.

Scroll down another 15 paragraphs and you get to a story on Trump’s approval rating. The news? Nothing’s changed much, and he’s still a controversial president.

Nine paragraphs later, Politico finally gets to what’s the biggest revelation in the Russia investigation to date.

The Washington Post reported the Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) “helped fund research that resulted in a now-famous dossier containing allegations about President Trump’s connections to Russia and possible coordination between his campaign and the Kremlin,” according to sources.

Clinton campaign and DNC lawyer Marc Elias retained Fusion GPS, who then “hired dossier author Christopher Steele,” WaPo reported, adding “[b]efore that agreement, Fusion GPS’s research into Trump was funded by an unknown Republican client during the GOP primary.”

Steele’s dossier eventually made its way to the FBI and the Obama administration. Intelligence officials showed Trump and former President Barack Obama the dossier in a briefing on Russian meddling in the 2016 election cycle.

Buzzfeed published the dossier online earlier this year. CNN obtained the dossier as well, but did not publish it in full.
