The FBI has reportedly opened a probe into a judge who sentenced rapper Meek Mill to two to four years in prison after corruption accusations surfaced against the judge.

Mill has been in conflict with the law since he was convicted on drug and gun possession charges in 2008 and sentenced to 18 months in prison. Judge Genece Brinkley handed down the sentence last week, despite prosecutors only seeking an extension of Mill’s parole. The FBI is probing Brinkley for possible corruption after reports came to light that she may have engaged in extortion on behalf of Mill’s former manager, Charlie Mack, Page Six announced in an exclusive report.

Brinkley is reportedly connected to Mack, who has repeatedly petitioned Mill to drop his current manager and rehire him. An unnamed source also told Page Six that Mack contacted Mill, saying he knew the judge and would smooth out his court proceedings if he dropped his current manager.

Mill’s sentence triggered hundreds of fans and some celebrities to rally in protest outside the Philadelphia courthouse Monday, claiming that the sentence was overkill, CBS Philadelphia reported.

“So this practice of jailing people when you feel like it against the recommendation of your own constituents and in this case it was a district attorney and it was his probation officer–that’s got to stop. Recuse the judge and let justice prevail,” NBA star Julius Erving said at the protest. “I’ve only met Meek Mill once but he knows my son Julius III and he knows my friend Michael Reuben and they believe in Meek. As we rally today because we all believe in him and that the punishment bestowed upon him is excessive, is cruel and it’s motivated by unsavory circumstances.”

The rapper has repeatedly extended his penalties by breaking parole, most recently by traveling to Las Vegas for a music awards event.

Mill is currently in jail under solitary confinement.
