Verified leftist Twitter got really upset with White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Monday after she asked WH reporters to share what they’re thankful for.
With the Thanksgiving holiday coming up on Thursday, Sanders’ insistence that reporters give thanks before asking a question was supposed to be a kindhearted, example-setting gesture. Instead, it angered the left, who devolved into ad hominem attacks and cried about First Amendment infringement.
The leftist hero of the briefing turned out to be Cecilia Vega, who responded that she was thankful for the First Amendment, implying that it may be under attack by the Trump administration.

Thankful to former Chronicle colleague @CeciliaVega of @ABC for sharp/needed response to hokey WH request for reporters to say what they’re thankful for: “I’m thankful for the #FirstAmendment“

“I’m always thankful for a straight answer to a question. Now: how’s minority government working out?”

I’m thankful that by 2020, you, Trump and his entire regime will be replaced and part of the ash heap of history, Sarah.
Anyway, you were saying? https://t.co/qeE8tiEWEY— Steve Marmel (@Marmel) November 20, 2017
I am thankful for the freedom of the press, a freedom which you retain whether or not you answer this ridiculous question.

“I’m thankful that awkward briefing is over,” The Washington Post’s Josh Rogin said.

Well, Sarah Huckabee Sanders just brilliantly demonstrated what I call “corrupted gratitude” in my next book.

One verified musician attacked Sanders’ makeup, saying her eyeshadow looks like “Elastigirl’s mask.”
I wouldn’t agree to start off with a thankful-for but if forced I seriously would be like “I am thankful for knowing how to correctly apply eyeshadow such that I don’t look like I’m wearing Elastigirl’s mask” https://t.co/vgWO5MsjTy

I´m thankful for all the people who work daily to separate facts from fiction each and every time Trump says something false. https://t.co/ucyBGdWSgO

I’m thankful I live in a democracy, where the free press don’t have to perform like schoolchildren for gov’t authority figures. https://t.co/1yhifiTYJw

I’m thankful I don’t have to say what I’m thankful for before I ask a question.

“Bizarre,” Will Sommer of The Hill said about the exercise.
Before reporters can ask a question at the WH press briefing, Huckabee Sanders is making them say what they’re thankful for. Bizarre.

Sarah Slanders forcing reporters to state what they’re thankful for before she doesn’t answer their question. So painful to watch. Like a cabinet meeting.
