Netflix recently released the sixth and final season of the hit show “Longmire,” and it’s the end of the era.
The modern day western drama set in Absaroka County, Wyoming defies what modern television has become. Most TV shows represent everything stereotypical about Hollywood and the coasts. They make fun of people who live in the flyover states, and preach leftist ideas on a regular basis.
“Justified” and “Longmire” are the only two shows that have been on television that consistently push a different narrative. The former wrapped up a couple years ago, and the latter will end whenever you finish streaming.
Sheriff Walt Longmire dominates the bad guys, and the show promotes the values of people out West and in the Midwestern. Everybody has a gun, people are as good as their word and actions always have consequences.
I spent substantial time in Montana, so I think I’m a little biased. However, that doesn’t mean this show isn’t incredible. Robert Taylor as Walt, Katee Sackhoff as Vic and Lou Diamond Phillips as Henry Standing Bear all turned in career performances.
There hasn’t been a single person I’ve ever met that watched this show and didn’t love it. I’m about halfway through the final season, and I’m sad to see it go. Once “Longmire” is done there won’t be another show on television as far as I know that does as great of a job at promoting the values of people ignored by mainstream entertainment.
Until then, grab a beer, put your feet up and enjoy one of the greatest shows ever created.
