It’s a sad morning in America because we’re officially done with college football until the end of August.
There are many sad days in our lives, but the end of college football every season is right there at the top for me. It’s a lingering dark cloud of depression that appears impossible to escape.
Of course, we did have a great season of college football. Fans got into nonstop debates about whether or not the SEC is dead as a power conference. Alabama and Georgia proved it’s certainly not dead at the top, but the rest of the conference is treading water to stay alive.
We also got to see UCF go undefeated and beat SEC West champion Auburn in the Peach Bowl. Are they the true national champions? That’s an argument I’m more than willing to listen to.
My Wisconsin Badgers had arguably the best season in school history after going 13-1 and blowing Miami off the field in the Orange Bowl.
Now it’s time to accept that we’re entering the dark days of the year when we are left without college football. The beer will taste a bit warmer, the sky won’t be as bright, the temps won’t be as high, the women won’t be bikini-clad or as beautiful and it will feel like we’ve lost our step.
This is a natural reaction football coming to an end. Embrace the darkness, grind it out and comeback prepared for next season. That’s what champions do. Alabama probably went back home last night and got in a few reps in the weight room. It was a hell of a year, and I’m glad I got to share it with each and every single one of you.
