President Donald Trump said Wednesday evening that he was one of the “greatest candidates” to ever run for the office, and admonished the press for not giving him enough credit for his win over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

“The fact is — you people won’t say it but I will — I was a much better candidate than her. You always say she was a bad candidate,” Trump told a group of reporters in an impromptu presser Wednesday evening at the White House. “You never say I was a good candidate. I was one of the greatest candidates. Nobody else would have beaten the ‘Clinton machine,’ as crooked as it was.”

The president revealed his plans for the roughly 800,000 illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children, often called DREAMers, a topic that Senate Democrats shut the government down over last weekend.

“We’re going to morph into it, it’s going to happen over a period of 10-12 years,” Trump said in reference to a potential pathway to citizenship for DREAMers.

“If somebody’s worked hard, if they’ve done a great job, it gives you an incentive to do a great job,” Trump said. “They’ve worked hard, They’ve done terrifically, whether they have a little company, or whether they work, whatever they’re doing, if they done a great job, I think it’s a nice thing to have the incentive after a period of time to become a citizen.”
