The Cleveland Browns are apparently taking a look at former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield with their first pick in the draft.

Cleveland.com reported the following:

Browns GM John Dorsey will meet with Wyoming’s Josh Allen and Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield at the Senior Bowl, but has already indicated they’re in the discussion for the Browns’ pick at No. 1.

Others on the radar are USC’s Sam Darnold, UCLA’s Josh Rosen and possibly one more. Darnold and Rosen are not here at the Senior Bowl, but Dorsey and Hue Jackson will have a chance to interview Allen and Mayfield.

I don’t think this would be a good idea at all. Mayfield is the definition of a high risk/high reward player. Rosen and Darnold are both better NFL prospects, but maybe the Browns believe neither will make any real attempt at succeeding there. Both players have reportedly signaled that they don’t want to play there.

The only reason I’d take Mayfield first overall is if the Browns honestly believe he’s the only available quarterback who actually wants to be there. Dealing with players who want to leave is a massive headache, and the Browns dealt with that when they had Manziel.

This just seems like very risky business.
