A new report indicates that FBI agent Peter Strzok co-wrote the draft of a letter that announced the re-opening of Clinton email investigation–but texts show him “grappling” about the consequences of the letter.

CNN reported Wednesday that Strzok co-wrote the initial draft of James Comey’s letter announcing that the re-opening of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server.

The report states that Strzok being involved the crafting of the letter “reveals a more complicated portrait of Strzok than many of his critics have painted in public.” Strzok has come under heavy criticism from many supporters of President Trump after his anti-Trump text messages were unveiled.

However, the report indicates that he may not have been comfortable with the release of the letter.

Strzok did, however, harbor reservations about Comey making a public announcement just days before the election and sent a text message to that effect, two sources said. And Strzok’s text messages provided to Congress show him grappling with the fallout of making the letter public, according to a CNN review of his texts.

Despite the fact that CNN states they conducted a “review” of the texts, they did not publish those texts in their Wednesday report.

The FBI agent has come under fire after anti-Trump text messages he sent to Lisa Page, another FBI agent were released. In one exchange with Page, Strzok discusses an “insurance policy” against a Trump presidency. He also called Trump a “f*cking idiot” and said “God Hillary should win 100,000,000 – 0.”(RELATED: ‘We Can’t Take That Risk’ — FBI Officials Discussed ‘Insurance Policy’ Against Trump Presidency)
