February 6 — former President Ronald Reagan’s birthday — is celebrated as National Ronald Reagan Day every year. This year, he would have turned 107 years old.

Ronald Reagan began his career as a Hollywood actor and was not elected into public office until the age of 55. He was elected as the 40th President of the United States at the age of 69.

Reagan made huge strides in the conservative movement following his election in 1980.

His economic policies followed a trickle-down model commonly coined as ‘Reaganomics,’ including a wave of deregulation and slashed federal taxes across the board. The Economic Recovery Tax Act was passed in 1981 and included a 25 percent tax cut over three years.

President Reagan was re-elected to a second term in 1984, with a whopping 525 electoral votes, winning every state except Minnesota. He announced his diagnosis with Alzheimer’s Disease in 1994 and passed away ten years later.

Here’s to the, Gipper. Happy Birthday!
