John Krasinski will play Jack Ryan in Amazon’s new series “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” and people need to chill out.

Several people I’ve talked to about the new series say it looks awesome, but they seem hesitant to believe that Jim from “The Office” is now some badass CIA operator.

This is an extremely lazy take. Jim was a great character, but it’s called acting for a reason. Is he just supposed to play a paper salesman for the rest his life? Makes no sense.

Did none of you see “13 Hours” and his awesome performance in it as a dude just smoking the bad guys?

The guy had no problem playing an American hero, and I bought every second of him slinging lead.

Here’s another important thing to remember. Jack Ryan is not supposed to be some macho man. Yes, he has high level military experience, but he’s more of a thinker than he is a hammer. That’s what makes the character so cool. Let’s think of who else has played him. Chris Pine, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Alec Baldwin. None of those guys came off as meatheads in their films.

Ford and Affleck both sold the idea they were super smart dudes who used their brains more often than weapons to get the job done.

So, everybody can chill out and relax. This show is going to be awesome, and Krasinski will be awesome in it. You can catch in August 31 on Amazon Prime.
