An old interview with “Sicario” writer Taylor Sheridan is making the rounds again, and it appears to provide some clues as to what fans can expect in the sequel.

The plot of “Sicario 2: Soldado” isn’t widely known, and we’re all pretty much in the dark. However, Sheridan indicated in 2015 that the sequel would focus a lot on choices and consequences.

The following is from his 2015 interview with Entertainment Weekly:

While Sheridan wouldn’t go into detail about his plans for a sequel, he did offer some insight into the philosophy behind Alejandro’s story and what kind of tale this will be. “One of the things that it touches on is everyone is offered choices in life: do what feels good or do what is good,” Sheridan said. “You make the wrong choice enough, and then it’s not presented again. Then every choice is bad, and each consequence worse. You fall down this rabbit hole where no matter what you do, suffering is on either side.”

I like the sound of this. The only inside look we’ve had is from the first trailer, which was awesome. Combining the trailer with these old quotes make me think we’re in for a great ride.

Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin both were spectacular in the original film, and both are returning for what sounds and looks like a very dark sequel. The trailer also makes it clear that we’ll be picking up not too long after the finish of the original. We were left with plenty of blood in the streets and absolutely chaos after Del Toro dismantled an entire cartel.

Sheridan has become the fastest rising star in Hollywood after being behind “Sicaro,” “Hell or High Water” and “Wind River.” Add up all the pieces and I’m loving where we’re at.

“Sicario 2: Soldado” is set to be released at some point this summer.
