Just when you thought fashion shows could not get weirder, models walked the catwalk while holding severed heads Wednesday during Milan Fashion Week from Feb. 21 to Feb. 27.

The Fall 2018 Gucci fashion show caused a quite a stir when fashion models walked the runway carrying molds of their own heads down a catwalk, reported Harpers Bazaar. The unique accessories were showcased with models walking a runway designed to look like a combined operating room and the waiting room at a doctor’s office, designed by Alessandro Michele for the iconic Italian fashion brand.

“The concept reflects the work of a designer—the act of cutting, splicing and reconstructing materials and fabrics to create a new personality and identity with them. The materials used are typical of an operating room and the environment around it: PVC on the walls and floors, fire doors with panic-bars, LED lamps, and plastic chairs like those in a waiting room,” according to a post by the brand’s official Instagram account.

The two models carrying versions of their severed heads bore a striking resemblance to their faces. Michele hired Italian techno-artisans part of Makinarium. The process took six months with the artists using molds of the models’ heads by making 3-D prints and scans. The hidden meaning is meant to signify spiritual burden of the evolution of oneself and their self-awareness, according to Vogue.
