Teacher Arrested After Shooting Gun In Classroom

Georgia police officers took a Dalton, Ga. teacher into custody Wednesday afternoon after the teacher reportedly fired a shot from his handgun through his classroom window.

The Dalton High School social studies teacher, 53-year-old Randal Davidson, locked himself in his classroom and refused to let students enter, a Dalton Police Department spokesperson said.

When the school principal attempted to open the door with a key, Davidson pulled out his handgun and fired a shot through the window. When police arrived on the scene, Davidson eventually turned himself over to them after about 30 minutes after a school resource officer convinced him to come out of the classroom.

“It certainly seemed like he didn’t have any intention to harm anybody else,” the police spokesperson said.

Police took the students to NW GA Trade and Convention Center for safety and told parents to meet up with them there. One student got an ankle injury from running during the evacuation.
