Mattel will lauch a line of 17 Barbie dolls to honor the notable work of inspiring women on International Women’s Day Thursday.
“Girls have always been able to play out different roles and careers with Barbie and we are thrilled to shine a light on real life role models to remind them that they can be anything,” Barbie general manager Lisa McKnight said, according to CNN.
The new Barbies are modeled after a myriad of noteworthy women, including aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart, artist Frida Kahlo, Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas, snowboarding champion Chloe Kim and NASA Physicist Katherine Johnson.
Plus-size model Ashley Graham, famous Chef Hélène Darroze, journalist Martyna Wojciechowsk and Olympic fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad are also among the list of barbies modeled after real women. Barbie unveiled its hijab-wearing doll honoring Muhammad, who competed in the 2016 Olympics wearing a hijab at Glamour’s Women of the Year summit, in November. The list of barbies also includes a conservationist, prima ballerina, soccer player, boxing champion and filmmaker.
