Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz said on Tuesday that he agrees with President Donald Trump’s assessment that Robert Mueller should’ve never been appointed as special counsel in the Russia investigation.

While Dershowitz said that the president should not fire Mueller because he has no “conceivable reason” to, he also agreed that the investigation should have never been started in the first place.

“The president is 100 percent right,” Dershowitz asserted. “There should have never been the appointment of a special counsel here, there was no probable cause at that point to believe that a crime had been committed. I’ve seen no evidence to suggest that crimes have been committed by the president.”

Dershowitz argued that there should have been a nonpartisan special investigation committee within Congress to look into Russia trying to influence the 2016 election “instead of starting out with finger-pointing and trying to criminalize political differences behind the closed doors of a Grand Jury.”
