A high schooler in Cornersville, Tennessee, is grabbing headlines this week after footage of him playing catcher with one arm went viral.
Luke Terry, 14, had his right arm amputated when he was 19 months old due to an E. coli infection. Terrified that he wouldn’t make it, his mom says he struggled through surgery and flatlined three times on the operating table. And nearly 12 years later, Luke Terry is killing it on his high school baseball team.
Terry’s coaches say he’s one of the “best and most competitive players they have been around,” according to Larry Brown Sports. And there’s video to prove it.

Big shout out to cornersville’s middle school catcher. With the use of one arm, this guy is getting it done. What a stud. pic.twitter.com/4rhPycFGyY

It’s pretty hard to tell that Luke only plays with one arm. He’s quick to react and seems to have no problem reaching his target. And he does other dexterous activities during the offseason, too. Terry told The Tennessean that he hunts during both bow and gun season. He’s even shot a 12 point buck that he’s particularly proud of. He also helps out on his family farm and looks after their 100 cattle.
“I don’t even think about it,” Terry said. “Fans tell me, ‘You’re an inspiration.” They want me to go a long ways.”
Luke Terry has a pretty remarkable story to tell, and there’s not much doubt in anybody’s mind that he’ll go a long way indeed.
