Season two of “Westworld” is less than a week away, and it’s hard to think of any news greater than one of TV’s best, most hyped shows returning after an explosive debut. Luckily, some addtional good news for “Westworld” and TV fans just dropped.
Jonothan Nolan and Lisa Joy, creators of “Westworld,” have a deal with Amazon Prime for a new show, according to Deadline. The new show, which will be called “The Peripheral,” is based on a novel by William Gibson.
Nolan and Joy’s production company will oversee it, and the two will receive executive producer credits. This is probably best case scenario for “Westworld” fans because Nolan and Joy will be producing more content under their production, without spreading themselves so thin.
Amazon is also producing the most expensive TV show ever, based on the “Lord of the Rings” universe. Amazon’s increase of quality TV is the best case scenario. Shows like “Sneaky Pete” are fantastic, but might not reach a large audience. With “The Peripheral” and “Lord of the Rings” on the horizon, Amazon will attract more customers, and the competition between the streaming services and HBO will be intense.
For the short term, though, season two of “Westworld” certainly has my complete, undivided attention.
