President Donald Trump tweeted Monday in support of imposing term limits on members of Congress after meeting with a group of freshmen lawmakers.
I recently had a terrific meeting with a bipartisan group of freshman lawmakers who feel very strongly in favor of Congressional term limits. I gave them my full support and endorsement for their efforts. #DrainTheSwamp

Trump proposed a constitutional amendment in the late stages of the 2016 presidential campaign that would limit congressional terms to six years in the House of Representatives and 12 years in the Senate.
“They’ve been talking about that for years. Decades of failure in Washington and decades of special interest dealing must and will come to an end,” he said in October 2016.
“We’re going to put on term limits, which a lot of people aren’t happy about, but we’re putting on term limits. We’re doing a lot of things to clean up the system,” Trump said to CBS News in November 2016.
