Former FBI director James Comey asked Trump supporting Republicans Friday what they would tell their grandchildren about their political choices during a Brookings Institute event.
WATCH:
Comey stated that “we’re all destined to leave these jobs and this Earth anyway” and telling himself he had to stay at his former job was a “fool’s bargain.”
“The question I keep asking and urging, especially Republicans today, is the grandchildren question,” Comey stated. “What are you going to tell your grandchildren?”
He blamed “important tax cuts on the table” and “important policy issues” as reasons to question their legacy to their grandchildren.
“I don’t think you can explain that trade to your grandchildren,” Comey said, “even if it means the loss of your job.”
He then said it was important to “remember what the institutions stand for, and stand for that.”
“If you shame yourself by making trades, telling yourself some story about your value to the nation about the value of those principles,” Comey pressed, “I don’t know what you’r going to tell your grandchildren.”
